Job Description

Job Summary:
Whitman Brewing Company is seeking a passionate, innovative, and experienced Head Chef to lead our culinary team. The Head Chef will be responsible for overseeing the kitchen operations, developing a seasonal menu that complements our craft beers, managing kitchen staff, and ensuring an exceptional experience for our guests. This role is critical to establishing and maintaining the high standards of quality, creativity, and consistency that define Whitman Brewing Company.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Menu Development & Execution:
    • Execute high-quality menus that pair well with Whitman Brewing Company’s craft beers.
    • Execute Walt Cafe Menu updates and development
  2. Kitchen Operations Management:
    • Oversee all aspects of kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, and plating.
    • Ensure all dishes are prepared and presented consistently according to standards.
    • Maintain compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations.
    • Work to maintain staffing and scheduling levels that are in line with labor targets and sales.
  3. Team Leadership:
    • Recruit, train, and manage kitchen staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
    • Schedule and supervise staff to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
    • Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to promote professional growth.
  4. Inventory & Budget Management:
    • Monitor food costs and control inventory to maximize profitability.
    • Work with the General Manager to set and maintain a budget for kitchen operations.
    • Negotiate with vendors for the best pricing and quality ingredients.
  5. Guest Experience:
    • Work closely with front-of-house staff to ensure a seamless dining experience.
    • Respond to guest feedback and adjust menu offerings or operations as needed.
  6. Collaboration with Brewing Team:
    • Collaborate with the brewing team to design menu items that highlight and complement the brewery’s beer offerings.
    • Participate in beer-pairing dinners and special events.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Head Chef or in a similar leadership role.
  • Culinary degree or equivalent experience.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to develop creative and innovative menus.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience managing food costs and budgets.
