JOB TITLE : Director, Regulatory Affairs

REPORTS TO : Senior Director, Product Development

DEPARTMENT :Product Development

OVERVIEW

The Director of Regulatory Affairs leads the ongoing development and implementation of regulatory strategies and processes to ensure Summer Fridays’ products meet global compliance standards. This role is instrumental in navigating complex regulatory environments, managing product registrations and maintaining ongoing compliance for both new and existing products across multiple beauty categories. The ideal candidate is a highly detail-oriented, organized leader with a deep and broad understanding of global regulatory frameworks in the beauty industry. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee all regulatory aspects of product development, ensuring compliance with global regulations, including FDA (USA), EU Cosmetic Regulations, Health Canada, APAC Standards, Middle East, AUS/NZ
  • Develop and execute regulatory strategies and SOPs to support product launches. 
  • Ensure ongoing compliance of the existing product portfolio, validating adherence to global retailer requirements, international distribution standards and ingredient blacklists. 
  • Serve as the primary regulatory liaison with external partners, including consultants, contract manufacturers, ingredient suppliers and government agencies. 
  • Ensure MoCRA compliance, including mandatory facility registration, product listing, adverse event reporting, and adherence to good manufacturing practices (GMP) as required under FDA guidelines.
  • Lead preparation and submission of product registration dossiers for domestic and international markets.
  • Maintain Good Face Project software management and document control processes. 
  • Maintain comprehensive product documentation, including Product Information Files (PIFs), product safety assessments, raw material data, certifications and SOPs. Identify necessary documentation and processes that have not been addressed. 
  • Review and approve product labeling, ingredient lists and marketing claims to ensure accuracy and adherence to regulations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including PD, quality, marketing, legal and supply chain to align commercial efforts in all phases of ideation and commercialization for cosmetics, OTC and monographed products. 
  • Monitor global regulatory compliance changes and trends to proactively address potential impacts across the portfolio and NPD. 
  • Support development of innovative and sustainable product solutions by navigating regulatory pathways for new ingredients, technologies and packaging. 
  •   Provide expertise on regulatory challenges related to sustainability claims and certifications (e.g., vegan, cruelty-free, eco-friendly, etc.)
  • Additional responsibilities as necessary and applicable.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 10+ years of regulatory experience in global personal care products (skincare and cosmetics experience highly preferred)
  • BA/BS degree in an applicable discipline
  • In-depth knowledge of global cosmetic labeling and packaging regulations, including but not limited to US, Canada, EU and APAC
  •   Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex regulatory information as applicable and required for diverse audiences. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – able to work effectively with multiple disciples and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple responsibility, tasks and deadlines with precision and detail
  • Solid problem-solving skills, analytical skills and business acumen
  • Flexible personality to take on new challenges as they come and to switch gears immediately when necessary
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Suite products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and regulatory platforms 
  • Must be based in Los Angeles, CA
