Heavy Equipment Mechanic

A fast-paced, stable company is seeking a full-time mechanic for the Portland area. With over 38 years in business, the company offers a wide range of services for forklifts and heavy equipment, as well as a full rental fleet including forklifts, scissor lifts, and telehandlers. LOCATION : Portland, OR

SALARY : $30-36/hour DOE

SCHEDULE : Full-time, on-site 7am-4pm

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide exceptional customer service and apply industry knowledge as a heavy equipment mechanic
• Manage a list of customer accounts, dispatched from the home office to their locations
• Maintain in-depth knowledge of heavy equipment brands, including Tailift, Linde, Hyster, Toyota, and more
• Troubleshoot and repair Gas, Propane, and Diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components
• Utilize diagnostic software to troubleshoot error codes and engine issues via OBD-II or similar ports

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• 5+ years of experience as a heavy equipment or forklift mechanic
• Strong customer service skills and industry knowledge
• Familiar with various brands (e.g., Tailift, Linde, Hyster, Toyota, JLG)
• Ability to manage accounts and travel to customer locations
• Advanced knowledge of engines (Gas, Propane, Diesel) and hydraulic systems
• Proficient in electrical systems, troubleshooting software, and diagnostic schematics

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and parts (up to 50 lbs or more)
• Comfortable working in physically demanding environments, including outdoor settings
• Ability to crouch, kneel, bend, and crawl to access mechanical and electrical components
• Capable of using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment in various conditions
• Strong physical stamina to handle long hours and travel between customer locations
