Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs basic childcare procedures and related task-oriented activities in the Day Treatment classroom setting. Provide safety, security, and support at all times. Remain without bias.

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 per hour

Major Functions

  • Perform basic participant care procedures and related task-oriented activities.
  • Assist with school activities and academics and engage in 1:1 interaction, provide direct participant care.
  • Must transport participants to and from the residents' homes and day treatment facilities, activities, appointments, and other assigned events using New Day, Inc vehicles.
  • Responsible for driving participants from the Group Home to the. Day Treatment Facility.
  • Assist Program Therapist/ Day Treatment Supervisor with therapeutic activities.
  • Accompany selected participants to other facilities for special tests/exams and the emergency room.
  • Function effectively in mental health and medical emergency situations within the limitations of education, training, and job experience.
  • Assume responsibility for maintaining a neat, safe, and clean environment.
  • Observe, record, and report to Program Therapist/Day Treatment Supervisor any significant behavior and condition of participants, seeking assistance when needed.
  • Understand and conform to all Day Treatment program policies and procedures.
  • Obtain CPR and First Aid training within first 60 days of employment and renew annually.
  • Interact therapeutically with participants in individual, group, and Program settings.
  • Monitor and supervise participant behavior in individual and group situations.
  • Provide direct child care support.
  • Maintain good attendance record.
  • Present a neat, clean, and professional appearance.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with all safety standards.
  • Report on time for work and scheduled meetings.
  • Using DAP format, write progress notes describing all particulars and outcome concerning incident reports involving participants with regards to the clinical perspective of the incident.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor and New Day, Inc. administration.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: The position does not have any staff supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Per insurance requirements, employee must be a minimum of 21 years old , pass a Criminal and Child Abuse background check, have a valid Montana driver’s license and an acceptable driving record . No exceptions .

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Have a High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent, experience with seriously emotionally disturbed and/or chemical dependency treatment preferred, or a bachelor’s degree in human service field and two years therapeutic group home experience. Equivalent combination of appropriate education and experience may be accepted. Familiarity with word processing and computer concepts. Able to maintain high degree of confidentiality and exhibit diplomacy and tact.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals and groups.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must maintain current certifications in Non-violent crisis intervention, CPR, and First Aid. Must have a valid Montana driver’s license with an insurable driving record. Comply with the Immigration control and Reform Act through the filing out of an I-9 form.

The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision. This position may require the use of safe, non-injurious physical interventions (in the scope of non-violent crisis intervention training) to maintain safety.
