Job Description

The Speech and Language Pathology Assistant (SLP) assists in supplementing, enhancing, and extending speech/language therapy services by completing a variety of tasks such as, but not limited to, direct activities with students designed to develop pre-language and language skills, oral-motor control for speech production, vocalization, and use of assistive technology devices for communication. The SLP serves students who have identified speech and language disorders and may have other disabilities as well. The SLP must stay up to date with current research, advancements and best practice in speech and language pathology.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Conduct assessments, screenings, and evaluations to identify communication disorders in students.

2. Follows and implements documented IEP plans and provides progress monitoring.

3. Implement therapeutic interventions and treatment plans.

4. Provide one-on-one or group therapy sessions to students, incorporating various techniques and exercises to improve speech, language, and swallowing abilities.

5. Document and maintain accurate and detailed records of student progress, goals, and treatment sessions.

6. Develop and modify individualized treatment plans based on student needs and progress.

7. Monitor and track student progress through objective measures such as standardized testing, observations, and data collection.

8. Support students in the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices and technologies, as needed.

9. Assist in the preparation and implementation of therapy materials, equipment, and resources.

10. Provide guidance and instruction to family members, caregivers, and teachers on strategies to support students' communication goals and objectives.
